ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Cirque du Style
I was meeting with some producers after work today about a possible reality show so I wanted to look professional, but still stylish with a small splash of sexy. My DvF dress is conservative but snug enough to show off my figure. And I glammed it up a bit by pinning a brooch to the black circus collar. Fingers crossed my look worked and I can tell you guys about the show soon!

ttF Fashion Staples Series: Black in Check
The greatest part about a long boyfriend cardigan is it doubles as a dress. I usually add a belt but it made the sweater a little too short for work. The tights were a pretty recent purchase. Aside from a Goldilocks Halloween costume, I hadn’t even thought about white legwear since grade school. But a friend told me how she likes to wear white tights with t-strap pumps and I was in Target and saw a pair for $5. I figured I’d give them a try and I ended up liking the way they look. Good things can happen when you take fashion chances.

ttF Fashion Staples Series: Sweet Pleats
I used to be anti shorts with tights. But I think I’ve converted. I ordered these high waist shorts from Forever 21 and didn’t feel like waiting till it warmed up to wear them. They came with the most hideous belt. My fashion staple instantly fixed that
This is one of the cases where the outfit looks much better live. The pleats and the textured tights just didn’t photograph too well. The silly glasses, of course, came out perfectly.

So what’s with the shades?
This Sunday, at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Carrie Underwood and Usher are going to do a special tribute to Michael Jackson that will feature the 3-D mini-movie for “Earth Song,” which MJ created but was never aired. Through January 31, Target stores nationwide are giving away these 3-D glasses so you can see the film in all its glory when the Grammys air on CBS.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Day in Court
Best day ever. I recently got pulled over for running a red light. I didn’t really think I ran the red light so I went to court (i.e. the basic black and white outfit). The cop showed up, so I figured I was out of luck. But miraculously, he decided to tell the judge to dismiss my case. I still don’t know why but I am beyond thankful. In California, a red light ticket can cost you over $400. To celebrate, I met my friend Kinya for happy hour downtown at Ciudad. The tacos and Sangria were the perfect ending to my extremely lucky day.

ttF Fashion Staples Diary: Dog Beach
Today was a full day in the sand. In the morning, it was pretty hot, so I just wore a tank and leggings to go with my mother over to dog beach. But for our afternoon round by the water, I decided to try to incorporate one of my January staples into my outfit. The parka looked more feminine belted, and I’m definitely happy I wore the jacket. It kept me dry when I had to rescue Bunny from the waves and place her safely on the rocks. She’s not exactly a fan of the water, like our Golden Retriever Bear.

Fashion Staples Used: Reversible Belt

This is the first outfit of the ttF Fashion Staples Series. For the next 31 days, I will incorporate at least one of the above staples into my daily ensembles. At the end of the month, I will have worn each staple at least six times. Stay tuned!
1. Embellished Cardigan (J. Crew) — Mine is sold out but the gray version is currently on sale ($168 $99.99).
2. Silk Blouse (Banana Republic) — I found this top ages ago and wear it every single year. The store’s most recent version has a feminine ribbon detail ($69.50).
3. Reversible Belt (Target) — I bought this belt in the boy’s section of Target for about 8 bucks. You can probably find one in your local store. If not, this Levi’s belt ($14 $9.80) is equally inexpensive.
4. Men’s Watch (ESQ) — My accessory is extra special because it used to be grandfather’s. If you don’t have an heirloom piece in your family, this Seiko Watch
($254) has a vintage feel.
5. Dark Skinny Jeans (Forever 21) — I love designer denim as much as the next girl. But for under $25, Forever 21’s jeans are hard to resist. The only problem is they all fit so differently. If you order them online, make sure to get duplicates in multiple sizes.
6. Tan Flat Boots (Stuart Weitzman) — These shoes were a Christmas present from my mother. She originally wanted them for herself but they only had my size left. Lucky me! Try Steve Madden’s Immense Boots
($199.95) for a similar look. And make sure to enter SMFREESHIP at checkout for free shipping.
