This weekend, I’m having a Swanky 60s Birthday Soiree. One of my friends told me she wanted to wear a turban but had no clue how to make one. So I emailed my friend Sabina Les, who makes the most fab silk scarves, to share her expertise in another ThinkThruFashion how-to guest post. Here’s Sabina’s step-by-step tutorial on how to tie a glam turban…
All time glamour symbols like Joan Crawford, Faye Dunway and Joan Collins frequently wore turban styles created from scarves. They knew that a scarf tied low on the forehead makes the eyes and eyebrows stand out in a sexy way. For extra eye impact either match the color of the scarf or choose the opposite complimenting hue. For instance, with the scarf used here, Architecture Blue, both blue and brown eyes colors would appear more intense. You can use bobby pins to secure the scarf style in place. Here are some of my step-by-steps on how to create contemporary and fashionable turban styles out of a large square silk printed scarf.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Styling Hard Shadows Day 1
Whenever I wear a scarf with leggings and a cardigan, my mother calls it the LA uniform. Today, I wasn’t wearing leggings, but my cigarette pants are pretty close. And while I don’t think it’s necessarily an LA uniform, it’s the perfect wardrobe combination for a stylist.
Today, I assisted Reinaldo Irizarry on an editorial for A-List International. The first model forgot to wear something that wouldn’t need to go over her head. So, I gave her my cardigan as she sat in hair and makeup. The second model was freezing in between takes the entire day. My scarf quickly solved that problem. My outfit choice was very functional.
As for the shoot itself, it was an amazing experience in the Hollywood Hills. Reinaldo pulled fabulous clothing (I’m obsessed with this Valentino) and shoes (aren’t the PVC Manolos to die for?), photographer David Solomini was creative beyond words and I adored watching Sutan from America’s Next Top Model create a fur eye for the final look. Tomorrow, it’s back to the styling rack for another day of “Hard Shadows.”

Since I’m going to be spending my entire weekend styling, I thought it was perfectly fitting to share this FabTV sneak peak of uber stylist, Rachel Zoe’s, new QVC line. Most pieces are extremely wearable, everything is under $200 and I love that she says there’s “no need for real fur.” The collection launches March 22.

I got this skirt during a 25% off shopping party at PH8. Originally, I planned on wearing the skirt at fashion week with the gray dress worn as a top, platform booties and a sparkly statement necklace. The snow changed my outfit. But even though my layered look is different than AnnaLynne McCord’s the night before, and the way the skirt was styled in the PH8 lookbook, I find it funny how we all stuck to a black, gray and pink color palette. Next time I wear the skirt I’m going to try to change it up a bit.

One of the Jimmy Choo for H&M items I bought was this sequin racer-back top ($69.95). Online, it was styled with leather pants and booties from the collection. Here, I’ve shown six other ways you can wear it. What’s cool about the top is it has two layers. So when you get bored of the sheer chiffon overlay, you can easily snip it off and have a new silver tunic to wear.

One of my favorite shows from fall fashion week was Alexander McQueen. About a week after I drooled over the houndstooth looks on the runway, I spotted this jacket from Forever 21’s Circus collection and knew I had to have it. Here, I’ve styled it three ways. My fave is look #2. I was inspired by the New Look sculpted silhouette McQueen showed on the catwalk.
