ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: JalepeƱo Happy Hour
For my mom’s last night we met my friends Michael and Jess at happy hour at Boracho. The Mexican restaurant used to have happy hour till 7, but it’s sadly only till 6. It’s probably best, considering if I had any more jalepeno margaritas I might have fallen in my 5.8-inch heels.
I still can’t get over how comfortable the shoes are. I wore them for nearly 12 hours, walked up and down and a large hill and I wasn’t in unbearable pain when I got home. Jessica Simpson may get crap about her fashion choices sometimes but the girl sure knows how to design shoes!
I turned my dress into a top today by layering it under a skirt American Apparel sent me. Tribal necklaces made the metallic stripes of the dress work with the wood platforms.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Skirting Around
Today I was inspired by the way Rihanna and Kristin Cavallari wore their Pleasure Doing Business skirt. Okay, so my stripes are a dress, not a skirt, but both are skin-tight. A loose back top makes the mini appropriate for day. I rarely wear sneakers. My friend was surprised how “sporty” I looked. But I liked the plaid against the black and white pattern. Plus, it was a good shoe choice. The Sprinkles truck came by work today so we all made a field trip to get some red velvet. I would have been miserable in a high pair of heels on our sweets trek down Wilshire.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Happy Clogs
When I was in Miami, Steve Madden had an offer I couldn’t refuse: get 30% off fall styles, and then pick any shoe from their clearance wall for $20. I choose these clogs. I’ve been hesitant about the clog trend (the shoes are comfy but not exactly the most flattering). But the peep-toe on these platforms don’t cut off the ankle as much as the closed toe version.
A bright cardigan and studded belt transformed my dress from sexy to office appropriate with a bit of edge. My favorite color, yellow, + new shoes = me happy.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Channeling Diane at Sobieski
Diane Kruger is one of my favorite fashionistas. I adore almost everything she wears. She’s rarely over the top and uses details to show off her chic style. At the Genie Awards back in April she accessorized RM by Roland Mouret’s striped dress with a pop of pink. I instantly thought of the look when I was getting dressed tonight for the Truth in Vodka party with Sobieski and Bruce Willis. I was late, so I missed Bruce’s toast at the beginning of the bash (he dipped out early) but I was able to enjoy the cocktails with friends poolside at Tropicana. The stripes were the perfect summer print for the outdoor event.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Lia Sophia Lanaya
Tonight I attended the Lia Sophia Lanaya II Collection Preview at Sunset Tower Hotel. The Terrace is one of my fave event spots in LA. Every party that’s held there is absolutely gorgeous, and this was no exception. The new collection sparkled brighter than the city lights reflected in the pool. Stars like Lo Bosworth, Stacy Keibler and Twilight’s Christian Serratos scooped up different pieces as I sipped cocktails with Kinya and my LA Times fave, Matt Donnelly. I can’t wait to pick out some Lia for myself!
It’s finally heated up in Los Angeles and for some reason my air conditioner wasn’t working when I was getting ready. So I tried to put on minimal clothing. An unbuttoned shirt was loose enough to feel the slight breeze and a mini skirt is an obvious choice. My only mistake were the shoes. Patent leather cuffs on your ankles isn’t exactly cooling.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Volunteer Tuesday
I recently started volunteering as a personal shopper at Dress for Success. The organization helps prepare women for the work place by providing them with career tips and clothing. When a woman is interviewing for a job, they come and get dressed in a suit. When they get the job, they can come back and get five office appropriate outfits.
Today was my second week as a personal shopper and I can’t even begin to describe what an incredibly rewarding experience it has been. It proves how important fashion is in helping a woman’s confidence. My client today came in a little nervous about her interview. When she saw herself in a cream suit with a black striped shell and pumps she smiled and told me she thinks she’s going to get the job. I hope she does so she can come back and I can dress her again!
As for me, I didn’t dress for success, I went for comfort. The West Coast headquarters is still fairly new, so there are boxes galore. When I wasn’t dressing a client, I helped organize, which isn’t an activity for a dress or suit. Jeans and classic loafers (which have been super popular with celebs recently) was a more sensible choice.
