ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Channeling Charlotte York
I usually wear jeans to go to the movies. But Sex and the City 2 isn’t your average theater experience. So I got decked out in my Charlotte York finest and headed to the Shagri-La Hotel in Santa Monica to have a few cocktails before the flick. As the official vodka of SATC, Skyy threw a little party, complete with beauty services and, of course, drinks made with Patricia Field’s limited edition bottle. I could have used a few more vodka sodas inside the theater to get through the incredibly long movie. Carrie and Samantha’s character bored me but Charlotte, like always, was a pleasure to watch. And when she popped onto the screen wearing a fitted sheath, I couldn’t help but look down at my own dress and smile.

Random fact I learned this week: It wasn’t the girls of Sex and the City that started the Cosmopolitan craze. It was actually Madonna! Did anyone else know this? I did some more research on it and included the deets in an Ask Style column on How To Throw A Sex and the City Party on Mystyle.
But even if Carrie & Co weren’t responsible for making Cosmos a world wide phenomena, I’m still psyched to toast pink martinis with my girls tonight before attending a Sex and the City 2 screening in Santa Monica. In fact, I need to go figure out what to wear to channel my fave character: Charlotte York.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Hello Sunshine
It’s been an abnormally cold spring in Los Angeles. But just because it’s chilly doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the sunshine. Wearing yellow always brightens my mood. I’ve heard women complain that the color is difficult to wear. But there truly is a shade for everyone. If your paler, like I currently am, try a deep sunflower hue so you don’t get washed out. When you soak up a nice tan, then go for the neon like Sarah Jessica Parker in Valentino at the New York premiere of Sex and the City. Aside from the shoes, didn’t she look absolutely stunning? I’m loving the lighter hair.

The Sex and the City sequel begins filming next month (it’s set to hit theaters in May 2010). So maybe that’s why I’ve been noticing so many Carrie Bradshaw-esque clothing online. Unfortunately, it’s the fashion I wish stayed in my DVD box set of the series. Take this Free People slip dress, for instance. Does it not remind you exactly of the infamous naked dress Carrie wore on her first date with Mr. Big? I’m all for the nude trend. In fact, I wore a nude dress to a cocktail party I hosted over the weekend. But I prefer wearing flesh tones, instead of exposing all my flesh. That way people say your dress is pretty, not “interesting” as Mr. Big commented.
Then there are Free People’s hip huggers. Let’s pray those don’t find their way into Sex and the City 2. Not even Carrie can make the burgundy band look stylish.

I didn’t mind when Carrie Bradshaw skipped around NYC in a bandeau top. But no offense, I just really don’t feel like seeing everyone’s stomach when I step out to get a green tea latte. Bare midriffs should stay in Britney Spears’ Circus.
