ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Pout Pop
I love the way rich, red lip color pops against an all nude ensemble. And so do celebs: just look at Angelina Jolie, Diane Kruger, Emma Stone and Lea Michele! I wore the combo back in February to a Great Gatsby party. Today, I took a more subtle approach with lace and chiffon. People think you need a tan to wear nude but the neutral looks just as beautiful, if not more beautiful, against pale skin. The red lip helps make sure you don’t look washed out. I used CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain since I found it to be the longest lasting lip color.

ttF Fashion Staples Month #4: March Stripes
This month was literally over before I knew it. I learned that I can totally pull of red lips at the office. In fact, one of my friends likes me better with a bright lip. I also learned that my Jimmy Choo for H&M statement necklace was worth the ridiculously long wait. It’s generates more compliments than any other piece I’ve ever owned. Good job Tamara Mellon.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Ferrari Red
When you think of a Ferrari, the first color that comes to mind is red—well, at least that’s the color that comes to my mind. So I thought it was fitting to pencil on some Laura Mercier True Red for a charity fundraiser the luxury automaker was throwing to raise money for Haiti. I went with my girls Kinya and Patty and we all swooned over John Mayer as he sang in the backyard of the Bel Air mansion. I never understood why girls had a thing for him until I watched him with his guitar. Now I get it. More importantly, the auction raised over $600,000 for Haiti relief efforts. It’s remarkable how much men will pay for their toys, especially when it’s for a good cause.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: White Snake
I used to think you couldn’t wear red lips during the day. But after searching for the longest lasting lip color, I realized I like a bold pout at the office—as long as the rest of the outfit stays simple. I stuck to neutrals with a white sweater dress, my fave Forever 21 necklace, waffle knit scarf and embossed snakeskin boots and topped it off with my Laura Mercier red lip pencil. After work, I met Emily of Groomed LA for coffee at the most adorable bakery, Susina, and she was sweet enough to compliment me on my outfit. I truly think it would have boring without the bold lip color.

March is an incredibly busy month. There’s the Oscars, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and my birthday. Plus, it’s the end of fall and the beginning of spring. So transitional pieces were a must. Here’s the breakdown of the 6 Fashion Staples I’ll be wearing at least 6 Different times for the next 31 days:
1. Red Lips (Laura Mercier True Red Lip Pencil)
I’ve been incredibly busy recently and haven’t had as much time to get ready as I usually do. A red lip instantly dresses up any outfit and means you don’t have to worry about painting the rest of your face.
2. Statement Collar Necklace (Jimmy Choo for H&M)
After receiving copious compliments on this necklace at Marchesa’s pre-Oscar party I decided I needed to wear the jewelry more. Let’s see if I get as many accolades as I did in February.
3. Tan Blazer (Theory Blazer)
A black blazer is the ultimate basic but a lighter color helps you transition into warmer months.
4. Striped Long-Sleeve Shirt (PH8)
Black and white horizontal stripes have been all the rage for a while now. I love the French feel they have and they’re easily dressed up and down.
5. Black Cigarette Pants (Forever 21)
They were Audrey Hepubrun’s signature when she wasn’t wearing a LBD. Need I say more?
6. Nude Pumps (Steve Madden)
I’ve written about and worn Steve Madden’s Trinitie pumps ($79.95) on ThinkThruFashion more time than I can count. They’re not the most comfortable shoes in the world but I yet to find 4.5-inch heels that are. They look just like the Brian Atwood platforms every celeb has but cost a fraction of the price. While I have them in a few different colors, nude (or blush as it’s called on the site) is my favorite because it lengthens the leg.
