ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Retro Lace
I bought this dress when H&M first opened in Boston. Every time I wear it I get compliments. The lace polka-dot print came in different silhouettes but I adore the 50s feel of the shirt dress with a flowing skirt. I swapped the black belt it came with for a cream one and then used a piece of lace I cut off an old top as a headband to bring in some more white. Once I left my house I wish I had worn different shoes. I’m not crazy about the gold. I would have preferred a chunkier, wooden heel. But from ankles up, I love the vintage feel of this look.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Bienvenido a Miami
One of my favorite parts of this dress is you can make as sexy or subdued as you like. Since I’m in Miami for the week, I want to to do the former. I changed the neckline by wrapping an elastic above the bust line to create more of a sweetheart shape. Red lips and pearls gave the dress an Old Hollywood feel. I usually just use Laura Mercier’s lip pencil in True Red. But tonight, I added a coat of MAC’s Pro Longwear Lipcolor to make sure the color would last through our night out at the Mondrian.

Back in January, I went California Preppy for a day out with my best friend and our pups. Since then, I’ve become kind of obsessed with the denim shorts and tan boot combo (wearing it here, here and here). Today, I made it a little country with a floral Western shirt, thick braided belt and mosaic watch.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Two Point Oh! LA Picnic
I’m not one of those people who are always late. In fact, I have very little patience when I have to sit and wait for someone longer than 10 minutes. So imagine my horror when I got so lost going to the Two Point Oh! LA picnic that I arrived just 30 minutes before it ended!
Okay, let me backtrack a bit. Two Point Oh! LA is the brilliant idea of my friend Kelsi Smith of Dedicated Follower of Fashion. She formed the group to unite Southern California bloggers and hosts events to bring everyone together. Today’s picnic was the launch. There were a plethora of fab sponsors, an awesome gift bag and from the looks of the Flickr pool, very stylish people. Most guests were gone when I arrived but that just left Bunny and I time to catch up with Kelsi and Sandra of Debutante Clothing.
Since the gathering was at Griffith park, I went for flats. But if I wore my Melissa staples this month Kelsi and I would have been twinsies! She had on the whimsical Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon Heart peep-toes that I almost got before I went with the Lady Dragon Ball.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Volunteer Tuesday
I recently started volunteering as a personal shopper at Dress for Success. The organization helps prepare women for the work place by providing them with career tips and clothing. When a woman is interviewing for a job, they come and get dressed in a suit. When they get the job, they can come back and get five office appropriate outfits.
Today was my second week as a personal shopper and I can’t even begin to describe what an incredibly rewarding experience it has been. It proves how important fashion is in helping a woman’s confidence. My client today came in a little nervous about her interview. When she saw herself in a cream suit with a black striped shell and pumps she smiled and told me she thinks she’s going to get the job. I hope she does so she can come back and I can dress her again!
As for me, I didn’t dress for success, I went for comfort. The West Coast headquarters is still fairly new, so there are boxes galore. When I wasn’t dressing a client, I helped organize, which isn’t an activity for a dress or suit. Jeans and classic loafers (which have been super popular with celebs recently) was a more sensible choice.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: V.I.Peas
Tonight, my friend Enjoli invited me to the Black Eyed Peas The E.N.D. concert. Since I wasn’t going to have time to go home after work, I packed a statement necklace, leather jacket and black sandals in my car so I could easily transition my day look into night. I’m not a huge concert person but it was an absolute blast. Of course, Fergie’s costumes were insane from robotic space suits made of plastic that looked like metal to spiked over-the-knee boots and leather bustiers. But it was will.i.am that absolutely killed it. After the concert, we went to the Bacardi after-party at Club Nokia. I caught up with my pulicist and journalist pals, Kinya, Kirsten, Matt, Mary, Enjoli and Art.
