ttF Fashion Diary: Purple Pampering
Oscar weekend can be stressful but boy does it have its perks. One of them being there are many opportunities to get pampered. Today, I took my mother, who’s visiting for the weekend, to the Pre-Oscar Prep and Primp Party at the Argyle Salon & Spa to celebrate the new Oribe concept salon. Gaudy PR handled the event and the fab Avo Yermagyn (the male pictured below) set up hair and makeup for us. I got an amazing blowout by Joseph Chase then makeup by Sharon Gault aka Mama Makeup (the redhead) and Ashlee D (the Angelina Jolie look-a-like). Yes, I had two people working on me. It was pretty awesome. Plus, they used Youngblood, which is rapidly becoming one of my fave makeup brands.
As we got glammed up rainy night downstairs, Penelope Cruz was getting made up upstairs at the Sunset Tower Hotel, the same spot where every A-lister will be after the Oscars for Vanity Fair’s annual party.
On a side note, I just realized I must really like purple and turquoise together. This is the second time in just a couple of weeks that I’ve worn the color combo.

I was just discussing last week how much I hated Rihanna’s red eyeliner at the American Music Awards. Some of you may disagree but I thought it looked like dried blood leftover from an eyelift. Mila Kunis’ smokey crimson eyes back at the Emmys were much prettier—but the color was subtle.
I was hesitant about bold red eye makeup until a friend emailed me this photo of two adorable sisters rocking candy apple lids and a whole lotta leopard with their mom at the Original New Orleans Ladies, Kids & Men Buckjumpers traditional Second Line parade.
How awesomely 80s is this picture?!

I have a new lip gloss obsession: Benefit benetint lip balm
($20).
I know I might be a little late to the game, considering this product has been out forever. But I recently received it in a gift bag and have not been able to stop applying it since!
It feels so incredibly smooth on the lips, thanks to a healing Vitamin E formula and it has SPF 15 to prevent further chapping (my lips have been so incredibly dry recently and the gloss is such a life saver). It has just enough color to add a natural brightness to your face but my fave part is the fragrance!
The rose petal scent smells just like a bouquet of fresh-cut roses and tastes like that yummy rose jam I used to put on scones when having tea in London. Delish!
Over the summer, I got a makeover/makeup lesson with the fabulous Diana Changanaqui of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. She talked to me about some of the top beauty trends for fall: metallics, nude lips with sheer color, smoky eyes and chrome–even on lips!
Chrome for eyes, I get. Diana used Bobbi Brown’s Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Chrome Patina on my eyelids and it looked stunning. Thankfully, she skipped the silver lips and went with a more natural pink. But over Halloween, I was a silver superhero one night so I figured what better time to try the trend.
A publicist sent me Rimmel’s Stir It Up cream shadow in No Way!, which I spread over my lids for the perfect superhero sparkle. I then put on clear gloss and pat loose chrome eyeshadow on my lips. I looked in the mirror and death stared back (Keep reading to see what I mean).
But that’s the beauty of trying makeup trends. If you hate them all you need is a wet wash cloth. I wiped the chrome off my lips, applied chrome to my nails (which guys hated by the way) and went off to my party.

The Los Angeles Times published a step-by-step tutorial on how to get the aquatic, Lady Gaga and vampire looks MAC senior makeup artist John Stapleton and MAC makeup artist Jae-R Tuason created. They have some very impressive shots, but I also took a few myself behind the scenes.
Keep reading to see the gallery and if you want to get your makeup done too, call your local MAC store and make an appointment. It’s $50 for most Halloween makeovers.

Another reason I heart Heidi Klum? She loves Halloween as much as I do! I just ran across the supermodel’s top ten costume tips . Enjoy!
Heidi Klum’s Top 10 Halloween Costume Ideas
1. Sexy cat. You can make a cat costume yourself with a few things. Get a leotard and some fabric paint at places like Pearl Paint (www.pearlpaint.com) or Michaels (www.michaels.com). Then you can paint cat patterns right onto the leotard to make it more interesting. Buy a dog collar with a tag and put a fun message on it. For example, when I was a cat in 2007, I put “If lost, please return to Seal.” You can also buy cat ears and a fake tail that can be attached with a few stitches or a safety pin. Add in some sexy high heels or boots. Really go for it and paint your face like a sexy city cat. Don’t forget the whiskers!
