I was wondering if you have any advice about what I could wear to my 30-year high school reunion coming up this summer. I’d like to wear flats if at all possible because I’m 5’ 10” and my husband is shorter than I am. I also hate towering over people as I do when I wear heels, and most all my friends from school are short—even the guys. I don’t really want to wear a dress with flats. I think that looks clumsy, plus it looks like you’re trying too hard not to be tall and I hate that! I have long legs and a long waist and a pretty good figure if I do say so myself, and I don’t mind showing it off a little, but I want to look appropriate. Any advice?—Rhonna
Reunions are stressful. You’re seeing people you haven’t talked to in years so you want to look hot, while still staying classy and sophisticated. Since you don’t want to wear a dress or skirt, your only other option is pants. But instead of basic black slacks, try something a little different: the jumpsuit.
Michael Stars Surplice Jumpsuit
($172) is flattering for all sorts of body types. The straps are thick enough to wear a bra while the flattering v-neck shows off just the right amount (if it’s a little too low for you, you can always layer a black cami underneath). The ruched waist is incredibly slimming and the slight flare in the pants will hide the fact that you’re wearing flats. Another plus? The material won’t crease so it’s easily packable if you’re traveling for your reunion.
Now that you have your basic down, it’s time to talk accessories. (more…)

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Jumpsuiting Around
Today was a fashion challenge. I needed to create an outfit with February’s fashion staples that could take me from the office, to a Laker game and then to a birthday cocktail party. Luckily, I had epiphany upon remembering how I styled my jumpsuit in an Ask ThinkThru post on what to wear from work to an event.
For work, I played with color, pairing a turquoise necklace with my purple cardi. When it was time for the game, I threw the necklace in my purse and added purple and gold cuffs to watch the Lakers beat Philadelphia. After leaving Staples center, I added some sparkle with oversize hoops and left the cardigan in the car to sex it up a bit for a party in the hills. And my trusty Michael Kors Berkley sandals took me from 10am to 1am. Of course my feet were thrilled to slip into EMUs when I got home to walk Bunny but they didn’t even start hurting until the 10th hour. Pretty amazing for a 4-inch heel, huh? I’ve recommended these sandals before and my friends have thanked me numerous times. They’re incredibly comfortable—and now they’re on sale, too.

*Note: I only recommend the Kors sandals in black patent or fabric. I just steered a reader away from gunmetal. The shoe doesn’t look nearly as nice in metallic or animal print.
Jumpsuits
I’m so happy this trend is here to stay. Jumpsuits and rompers can be extremely flattering-and comfortable, too! I won’t be trying the cropped versions, though. Even though the models at Carolina Herrera and Halston looked great in them I need the wider floor-length leg to add height.

Every time I’ve worn a jumpsuit I’ve received compliments—from both men and women. Plus, it’s on trend and reminds me of the gorgeous Farrah Fawcett. So I’m always on the lookout for more. Alloy Glam Jumpsuit
($48.50) has flattering wide legs and an adorable button detail down the front. I’d define my waist and add a pop of color with a skinny belt.
Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith were my two favorite Charlie’s Angels. So, like most people. I was saddened to learn this morning that the blonde feathered-haired, blue-eyed beauty had passed away from cancer at 62. I took a moment to look back at her fabulous 70s fashion and realized that many of her looks mirror the clothing seen on the spring runways. So, I put together a little photo tribute to Farrah’s style:
