Slashing
Edward Scissorhands was a fab movie but I would never let Johnny Depp’s character near my closet. And I wish designers didn’t invite him to their studios to slash everything in site.

This morning, I saw the first photos of Tim Burton’s upcoming adaptation of Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Like most of the director’s movies, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter star and the costumes are wildly imaginative. A few hours after wandering around USA Today’s equally innovative galleries, I drove to Beverly Hills to check out the sales racks at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue (Madison Avenue Spy filled me in that the retailers just took their second markdown).
I didn’t have much time so I quickly walked through the racks of shoes (mainly Christian Louboutins) and forced myself to put back a studded pair of Manolo Blahniks after realizing that even with an extra 33% off, they still cost more than my plane ticket to Miami.
Upstairs at Saks, however, I couldn’t resist this D&G Dolce & Gabbana Bustier Dress ($495 $198.03). I’m not a pastel girl so I was surprised at myself for buying something in baby blue. But when I read my girl Laurie B’s clever take on the photos from earlier today I realized what had influenced me. If I pair my new purchase with a blue grosgrain ribbon headband, I can be a posh adult Alice for Halloween.
