Celebrities like Fergie, Rihanna, Emmy Rossum, Rachel Bilson and Audrina Patridge have been modeling colored jeans for quite some time now. Still, aside from white denim I never had any desire to wear the trend. But I was willing to give it a try when YMI Jeanswear sent me over a pair of their teal skinny jeans. I ended up really liking the denim. For starters, they fit amazing, thanks to a lower rise in front and higher rise in back. And the color added a playful quality to every outfit I created. I recently borrowed a pair of Level 99 jeans to prove to my editor that rips and tears can look hot. I wore #4 to work and she told me that styled like that, she guessed ripped jeans weren’t so bad after all. But look #3 is probably my favorite, because it contrasts the rugged denim with a feminine ruffle cardigan. I’m sad I had to give the jeans back. They were so comfortable—and since I rolled them up, I was able to show off all my favorite shoes.

I’m going to New Jersey next week and it’s supposed to be about 50 degrees and rainy. I will be wearing jeans and taking a casual rain jacket. Is it too late in the year to wear boots?

It’s never too late in the year to wear boots. I sometimes wear my favorite tan Jeffrey Campbell knee-high flats in the summer with a pair of denim cutoffs. Plus, it’s 50 degrees where you’re going! For California girls like you, me and Jen Aniston that is turtleneck weather.
But if you’re worried about looking too wintery, wear something that says spring on top, like the pink blazer Ciara paired with her J Brand 912 pencil leg jeans or the Marc Jacobs jacket Rihanna used this week to brighten up Torn Jett J Brands and motorcycle boots. You can also go for a classic look like Hayden Panettiere did with a white button-down over Paige Premium Denim Blue Heights skinnies (the same ones I’m wearing in the pic to the left!)
If you go back east later in the year when it’s 90 degrees and rainy, you can get a pair of Melissa plastic flats. That way you can splash in the puddles and keep cool. Safe travels!

During a recent trip to Miami, my friend and I started noticing an odd trend: blinged out butts… on men! Well, male mannequins at first. Every other store we passed in South Beach featured jeans with crystal designs on the back pockets. Window displays were one thing but then we saw a man wearing a pair at a cocktail party at Viscaya—with a matching studded jacket no less. It was hard not to grab the girl he was holding hands with and tell her to ditch her fashion disaster date ASAP!
I still have my Sevens with sparkling zigzags lining the backside. But I retired them in 2005. I wish the men in Miami, at least the straight ones, would do the same. (And sorry about the quality of the photo. I had to take it from far away because I couldn’t exactly say, “Sir, may I take a picture of your bum?”)

I own more jeans than I care to mention. But I only have two pairs of skinny jeans that I adore: my Paige Blue Heights ($179) and my Desert Blue Bullhorns ($148).
