ttF Fashion Diary: 90s Flowers

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: 90s Flowers
Last year, when I styled this floral dress 6 different ways, the majority of ThinkThruFashion readers liked it paired with a denim jacket the best. I think that partly had to do with the boots but I felt like switching it up with wedges today. There was something very 90s about the combo, even when I borrowed Jen’s retro sunglasses. But the 90s are back in fashion so it’s definitely not a bad thing!

The only problem with belting the dress and making it blouson style is you have to be conscious of the slip. I found throughout the day the slip would peek out under the sheer fabric so I’d have to go to the bathroom and adjust. But I think the shorter hemline is more flattering, which makes the extra effort worth it.

My favorite thing to wear with voluminous floral skirts is a simple tee. Back in March, I went with brown, but today I topped my Carrie Bradshaw skirt off with simple white. The thick layer of tulle under the floral print make me feel über girlie and really keeps the skirt’s playful shape. Considering I was standing on a ledge, I decided not to lift up my skirt today. But you can get a better idea of what I’m talking about here. If your skirt doesn’t already come with stiff fabric, try layering a thin petticoat underneath to make it full and flirty.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Windy City
I feel like I’m back in New England. One minute it’s raining (i.e. the trench), the next it’s sunny and then it’s so windy that I can’t even snap a photo without looking like Cousin It. So please excuse my hair in my face. I based my outfit today on an Ask ThinkThru post I did last year. A floral top makes me smile when it’s raining. Of course, the rain was gone by 11am but that’s besides the point.

It was another March summer day in Los Angeles. To celebrate, I wore what I like to call my Carrie Bradshaw skirt (this pic might give you a better clue why). Red and pink are one of my fave color combos so I played that up with a red lip, which happened to match part of the painting my friend and I passed on our way to the Kogi truck during lunch. If you drive down Wilshire Boulevard, you can see the mural, which was created by L.A.-based artists to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The artwork was actually done on pieces of the original Berlin wall. Pretty cool, right? I can’t believe I passed it on my way to work for the past three years and never stopped to full understand why JFK looked at me every morning with his baby blues.

I was planning to catch up on my sleep last night but a friend invited me to the opening of Plush and Bar 210 over at the Beverly Hilton. Of course, the minute I returned to Los Angeles the weather took a turn for the worse so I opted for long sleeves to keep warm. And thanks to Foot Petals Tip Toes, my red pumps weren’t nearly as painful as they were first time around. If you’re in Los Angles, the bar and lounge is definitely worth checking out. It’s a very cool venue and a nice change of scenery from Hollywood.
