Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends: Still Loving Geometric Prints

geometric1

I wasn’t a fan of geometry in high school. Maybe if my teacher had worn some of these clothes while lecturing about shapes I would have been more interested.

Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends: Tired Of… Capes

capesSome capes can be chic. But more often than not, they come across looking like something out of a fairy tale or comic book. The majority of capes in Paris only seemed suitable for last year’s Superheroes-themed Met Gala.

Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends: Hesitant About… Exposed Midriff

exposed-midriff

I didn’t mind when Carrie Bradshaw skipped around NYC in a bandeau top. But no offense, I just really don’t feel like seeing everyone’s stomach when I step out to get a green tea latte. Bare midriffs should stay in Britney Spears’ Circus.

Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends: Still Loving… Quilted

quiltedI could have done without the quilted comforter wraps, but I loved the quilted leather looks at Balmain and Alexander Wang. It was a cool mix of classic and edgy.

The quilted purses at Louis Vuitton were much more interesting than the boring LV brown monogram and I don’t think a classic (not plastic!) Chanel purse will ever go out of style

Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends: Hesitant About… Drop Waist

drop-waist

I am not a fan of the drop waist. My hips are not a feature that I want to exaggerate. Anyone who is hourglass or pear shape probably feels the same. Tall, thin models, square shapes, and inverted triangles, on the other hand, look fabulous in a drop waist because it adds curves.

This is also a great trend for women with short waists. It’s just not a good trend for me. It’s too bad, because I’m in love with Dries Van Noten’s print (bottom right). If only the waistline was, well, at the waist.

*Behnaz Sarafpour actually showed in New York but I wanted to include since it was such an extreme.

Fall 2009 NY Fashion Week Trends: Hesitant About… Fur

furI actually loved all the colorful fur on the catwalk. I’m just scared that not everyone will follow in Rebecca Taylor’s footsteps and go faux.  If you don’t know where to get good fakes, try Fabulous Furs. I’ve found all their merchandise to look and feel so incredibly real. I hope they come out with brighter versions this year!
