Beauty Trend: To Chrome or Not to Chrome for Fall

Chrome Makeup Trendy For FallOver the summer, I got a makeover/makeup lesson with the fabulous Diana Changanaqui of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. She talked to me about some of the top beauty trends for fall: metallics, nude lips with sheer color, smoky eyes and chrome–even on lips!

Chrome for eyes, I get. Diana used Bobbi Brown’s Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Chrome Patina on my eyelids and it looked stunning. Thankfully, she skipped the silver lips and went with a more natural pink. But over Halloween, I was a silver superhero one night so I figured what better time to try the trend.

A publicist sent me Rimmel’s Stir It Up cream shadow in No Way!, which I spread over my lids for the perfect superhero sparkle. I then put on clear gloss and pat loose chrome eyeshadow on my lips. I looked in the mirror and death stared back (Keep reading to see what I mean).

But that’s the beauty of trying makeup trends. If you hate them all you need is a wet wash cloth. I wiped the chrome off my lips, applied chrome to my nails (which guys hated by the way) and went off to my party.

ttF Daily Fave: Les Tissages De Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect

Les Tissages De Chanel Blush Duo Tweed EffectMy girl Amber introduced me to Chanel’s Fall 2009 makeup collection in her blog, Beauty Blogging Junkie. I just cannot get over the Les Tissages De Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect ($45). The contrasting colors in the compact are woven together to mimic the iconic jackets every woman covets. It’s so pretty, I’d be scared of using the shimmering powder in fear of messing up the artistic design!

Line Your Lashes in Gold Like Lo Bosworth

Get Lo Bosworth's Golden Eyes at the MTV Movie AwardsI’m a big fan of gold eye makeup. It just goes so well with a summer tan. But I was surprised to hear that for the MTV Movie Awards, MAX Factor celebrity makeup artist, Jake Bailey, only used gold to line Lo Bosworth’s bottom lashes (pictured on top). I usually dust gold eyeshadow on my lids. I never thought of using it to line my eyes.

Bailey wanted to create a simple eye to go with the reality star’s bright lips. I followed Bailey’s advice and gave it a try myself (pictured on bottom). I didn’t have the same products as he used for Lo so I substituted Chanel eye shadow in Slate with Stila eyeshadow in Cloud to swipe on my lids. I then wet a brush and lined my lower Lashes with the gold from my Stila Gold Glow eyeshadow trio since I didn’t have MAX Factor MAXeye Liner in Gilt Complex. I topped it all off with two coats of mascara as recommended. I think this is going to be my new day eye. It’s subtle but the stripe of gold adds a glam factor, perfect for days when I have to go straight from work to an event.

Want the same bright pink lips as Lo Bosworth? Pucker up with MAX Factor Vivid Impact Lipcolor in Sweet Tart. Bailey also recommends Rose Rage and Ms. Terious for light, bright shades to keep your look fresh.
