ttF Fashion Diary: Channeling Gwyneth

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Channeling Gwyneth
It’s rare that I copy a celebrity look from head to toe. But when I saw a photo of Gwyneth Paltrow at the opening of Mario Testino’s exhibit, “Kate Who?,” I wanted her exact outfit.

Tonight, I went to dinner with my friend Ashley at Bar Marmont. And I tried to recreate the look as closely as possible with items I had in my closet. My faux agate necklace costs a fraction of Gwyneth’s diamond-studded horn. And I didn’t have her gorgeous Stella McCartney clutch. But I still felt classic and sexy in the black and white outfit, just like Gwynnie looked in London.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Velvet Tiger Nylon Night
I had literally not even ten minutes to get ready tonight. But sometimes being in a rush results in great outfit choices because you don’t have time to second guess yourself. Usually, I would have tried on a few necklaces to see which one I liked best against the velvet. Instead, I stuck with the first accessory I touched. I never would have thought to wear the bib necklace with this outfit but I really liked my last minute choice.

First stop of the night was the Tiger Sushi restaurant opening in Beverly Hills, where I had wine and yellowtail with friends including Marilynne and Dahvi (pictured below). Then it was off to the Trousdale for Nylon’s anniversary party. I arrived at the same time as Mischa Barton, who despite what Brandon Davis tweeted, did not look fat whatsoever in a gold one shoulder dress. After catching up with more friends, I headed to Covergirl’s photobooth with Jamie aka the Queen of the Quarter Life Crisis. When we finished taking pics, Paris Hilton arrived with Nicky and in 5.2 seconds was standing up on couch, dancing above the crowd. Good to see not much has changed since I was Hollywood Party Girl.

Another thing that never will change? People love touching velvet. Every other time I hugged a friend hello they oohed and ahhed upon feeling the soft fabric.

One Forever 21 Cap-Sleeve Dress, The Budget Babe’s 6 Looks

The Budget Babe's Forever 21 Cotton Cap Sleeve Dress

When it comes to affordable fashion, The Budget Babe has you covered. Through easy-to-follow dress by number series, she teaches how to get celebrity style without an A-list paycheck. The Budget Babe took a break from bargain shopping to do a guest post showing how she styles her Forever 21 cotton cap-sleeve belted dress. She tells me she “was drawn to the colorful feather-print and vintage feel of this piece.”

My favorite look is #3. A tunic is the perfect solution for those of you who fear the way your thighs might look in a pair of white skinnies.

Inspired by… Michelle Obama: One Strand of Pearls, 6 Looks

pearl-6way

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend but pearls are like a big sister who will always be there for you. I received my first single strand of pearls when I graduated from high school. At first, I thought I could only wear them on special occasions. But as I got older I realized their versatility.

Here, I’ve styled a pearl necklace six ways to show how the jewelry can work for the office, a luncheon or a date. I took inspiration from Michelle Obama when creating these outfits. Notice I said inspiration, not getting the look for less. Rather than having a cheaper copy of a celebrity outfit I prefer to take elements of people’s style that I admire and make it my own. For example, I love how Michelle mixes her studded Azzedine Alaïa belt with more feminine pieces. Instead of mimicking one of her belted outfits from head to toe, I took a blue dress from my closet and swapped the simple patent belt I usually wear with it for a studded one. I’m also a fan of the first lady’s unique color combos. I’ve worn my green sweater set with a white skirt before—paired with simple nude stilettos. But I thought about Michelle’s interesting inaugural lemongrass and jade coupling and tried an unexpected color on my feet. Mrs. O wouldn’t necessarily wear neon, but I love anything fluorescent—and the electric yellow is definitely more original than nude.
