ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Art in Bloom
It was another March summer day in Los Angeles. To celebrate, I wore what I like to call my Carrie Bradshaw skirt (this pic might give you a better clue why). Red and pink are one of my fave color combos so I played that up with a red lip, which happened to match part of the painting my friend and I passed on our way to the Kogi truck during lunch. If you drive down Wilshire Boulevard, you can see the mural, which was created by L.A.-based artists to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The artwork was actually done on pieces of the original Berlin wall. Pretty cool, right? I can’t believe I passed it on my way to work for the past three years and never stopped to full understand why JFK looked at me every morning with his baby blues.

When I first bought this Forever 21 floral skirt, it had a massive bow at the waist. I’m talking a bow the size of my head. I thought it would make a great accessory for a Minnie Mouse costume—it just wasn’t right for the skirt. So off it went and I was left with a flouncy, flirty piece that I’ve worn to work and out with my girls. Here, I’ve styled it three ways…

The Sex and the City sequel begins filming next month (it’s set to hit theaters in May 2010). So maybe that’s why I’ve been noticing so many Carrie Bradshaw-esque clothing online. Unfortunately, it’s the fashion I wish stayed in my DVD box set of the series. Take this Free People slip dress, for instance. Does it not remind you exactly of the infamous naked dress Carrie wore on her first date with Mr. Big? I’m all for the nude trend. In fact, I wore a nude dress to a cocktail party I hosted over the weekend. But I prefer wearing flesh tones, instead of exposing all my flesh. That way people say your dress is pretty, not “interesting” as Mr. Big commented.
Then there are Free People’s hip huggers. Let’s pray those don’t find their way into Sex and the City 2. Not even Carrie can make the burgundy band look stylish.

I didn’t mind when Carrie Bradshaw skipped around NYC in a bandeau top. But no offense, I just really don’t feel like seeing everyone’s stomach when I step out to get a green tea latte. Bare midriffs should stay in Britney Spears’ Circus.
