ttF Fashion Staples Series Month #2: February Softness
This was a very hard month. Since there were only 28 days, I had to make sure to incorporate more than one Fashion Staple into many of my outfits. In total, I wore each of the 6 items at least 6 times. Although the outfit I created to kick off February was black and gray, the majority of my looks are either pink, red or green (my favors colors to pair with gray). Here’s the breakdown:

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Remembering Alexander McQueen
Before I got dressed this morning I saw pictures of Naomi Campbell, Daphne Guinness and Kate Moss attending Alexander McQueen’s funeral in London. It inspired me to switch up my outfit for the day. Instead of the pastel tweed I planned to wear over my gray dress, I tightly belted a houndstooth jacket to achieve a similar New Look feel as the late designer’s fall collection. I topped off with an unexpected pop of pink to remember all the brightness McQueen contributed to the fashion world.

I was a girlie-girl growing up—and that certainly has not changed. I still feel the need to twirl every time I wear a full skirt. Looking at these pictures, I realize how much better the skirt looks with all that volume. I wish petticoats would make a comeback so I don’t have to spin in circles.

A friend invited me to a Great Gatsby themed birthday party. Anytime I hear the words “costume party” my eyes light up like a kid in a candy store so I spent the entire day yesterday shopping for something to wear. We stopped by a few vintage stores but nothing wowed me. My friends were going the classic flapper route with fringe and feathers but I couldn’t get Drew Barrymore’s Grey Gardens premiere look out of my head. Remember that stunning Alberta Ferretti gown with dark red lips?

Luckily, right before I settled on a purple fringe mini I remembered a nude embellished dress I had bought for a wedding years ago. With opera gloves, pearls and six coats of my CoverGirl Outlast lip stain (the longest lasting lip color) and a swipe of Urban Decay’s dark purple lipstick I was able to make it work. Since we were out all day, I didn’t have enough time to perfect the Marcel wave like Drew but I think I did a decent job. A brocade jacket with a brooch kept me warm when I wasn’t sitting by the fire at the party.

Day 3 of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 2010 and it’s freezing outside! A sweater dress is the perfect solution to the winter chill and green always brings out my eyes—and it just happened to match the walls at the Haute Look Lounge in the Bryant Park Hotel. They lined the room with the famous Martinique wallpaper from the Beverly Hills Hotel, which reminded me a little bit of home. At the lounge, the fabulous Jemma Kidd makeup artist, Silver Navarro, touched me up before I hosted a couple of videos for the Style Coalition. Highlights today included ADAM’s country chic collection, interviewing Wenlan backstage after Twinkle’s show and Vivienne Tam’s presentation.
