When I lived in Boston, I used to shop at Karen Millen every time I visited Copley Place. The UK brand has beautifully tailored clothing, and very unique since they have limited stores in the United States. Today, I popped into their San Diego store during an impromptu shopping trip. Even though I have no need for it, I fell in love with this Karen Millen satin sleeved dress ($380 $175). It reminded me of the dramatic shoulders I adored on Dolce & Gabbana’s runway—the ones I could only afford in my dreams. This dress wasn’t cheap, but on sale it was doable. Bold Shoulder: Fall 2009 Runway to Real Life

Yesterday, I said I didn’t how I’m going to wear the upcoming strong shoulder trend. But that was before I shopped my closet! I completely forgot about my True Meaning tweed jacket with shoulder pads. Granted, the padding isn’t as extreme as some on the runway but it’s definitely a start. Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends: Excited for… Bold Shoulder
The 80s inspired many designers for Fall 2009. So it was no surprise to see the strong shoulder all over the Parisian runways. Some were futuristic, others were knitted and a few were even plastic! I don’t how I’m going to wear this trend come fall but I’m definitely excited to try it.
And if you want inspiration, add Problem Child to your Netflix cue. I just watched the classic last night and the little terror’s mom, Flo (Amy Yasbeck), has some seriously fierce outfits.

Fall 2009 NY Fashion Week Trends: Excited For… Bold Shoulder
Square, poufy, padded, structural… basically anything goes next season. I have small shoulders, so this trend helps me achieve more of an hourglass shape. But as long as you don’t go to a Joan Crawford extreme, this trend works on almost every body type (Athletic types: you might want to steer clear).
