CoverGirl LashBlast Luxe Mascara: Which Black is Right For You?

lashblast_luxe_mascara_1I’m usually very dubious of online quizzes. But they’re a fun way to procrastinate whenever I’m facing writer’s block. Tonight, I took one for research purposes only. I wanted to see if CoverGirl could correctly predict which shade of their new LashBlast Luxe mascara was right for me.

Early today, I stopped by the Kick-Off to Summer Party at the Byron & Tracey Salon in Beverly Hills. I chatted with CoverGirl’s celebrity artist, Molly R. Stern, about summer beauty tips—she suggests dampening your sponge before applying foundation to achieve dewy, glowing skin. Then I got a fabulous manicure by Bali, who applied one coat of reflective pale pink polish then another coat of sheer for a luminous matte look (Remember this tip because matte nails are hot for fall). Finally, I left with a goodie bag full of CoverGirl products. Which brings me back to the quiz: Which luxe shade of the blackest-black LashBlast formula is right for me?

One Kmart Wrap Dress, 6 Looks

kmart-wrap-dress

Last week, I styled a $3 skirt from Kmart to get six different looks. This week I’m using the other piece I kept from that photo shoot: a faux wrap dress. This particular one isn’t available on Kmart online but the wrap dress is a classic so I’m guessing most of you already own one. (On a side note, I loved Seventeen editor-in-chief Ann Shoket’s pink leopard wrap dress on America’s Next Top Model last night. So cute!). But back to mixing high and low with the Kmart dress at hand….

1. Here’s the dress plain and simple. Nothing added except accessories.
Flying Lizard Design necklace, bracelets I found in a London flea market, Steve Madden sandals

2. By layering underneath you can show off your dress and still keep warm. Just make sure your shirt or sweater has a snug fit.
Tiana long-sleeve shirt, lia sophia necklace, Bebe belt, Robert Clergerie boots

3. Now every time I belt a cardigan over anything I think Michelle Obama.
Forever 21 cardigan
, Ann Taylor belt, necklace I found in a London flea market, Tahari sandals

4. I felt inspired by the midi-skirts from Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2008 collection (probably since I was wearing shoes from that season).
Theory cardigan, Urban Outfitters necklace, Chinese Laundry knee-socks, Dolce & Gabbana oxfords

5. This English professor look sort-of reminds of a tamer version of Dolce & Gabbana’s fall ads.
Monteau jacket, Sigerson Morrison boots

6. Instead of a blazer, try belting a sweater over a dress for an office chic summer outfit.
Forever 21 sweater, Target belt, Tiffany bracelets, silver bangle from Mexico, Prada pumps

My favorite look is number 3. In fact, I think I’ll wear it to work next week when the weather start to warm up.

Ask ThinkThru: Where Is A Good Location for a Photo Shoot?

antm-ny-photo-shoot

Have you any idea where I can find a place where to be dressed-up, eventually also with a photographer who could take some pictures? You know, as in a real fashion photo set but just for fun with my friends.
-Jasmine, New York.

If you’re just doing it for fun, I would suggest an outside location. This way you don’t have to worry about renting lighting or paying for a space. New York has endless possibilities for photo shoots. Think about in Devil Wears Prada, where they staged an “Urban Jungle” in Central Park. Or watch episode 4 of America’s Next Top Model, “New York’s Finest.” The contestants posed on top of a tour bus in Times Square, Soho, Wall Street and the Upper East Side (photos above).

Contrast is a really easy way to get editorial looking pictures. If you and your friends are planning to wear pretty cocktail dresses, pile on some costume jewelry and pose in front of a graffiti-covered building, like the Yellow Rat Bastard in SoHo. Or paint your nails black and go wear your ripped skinny jeans and motorcycle boots on Fifth Avenue. Whatever you decide to do, send your photos so I can see how you thought thru fashion on your shoot!
