ttF Fashion Diary: Skirting Around

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Skirting Around
Today I was inspired by the way Rihanna and Kristin Cavallari wore their Pleasure Doing Business skirt. Okay, so my stripes are a dress, not a skirt, but both are skin-tight. A loose back top makes the mini appropriate for day. I rarely wear sneakers. My friend was surprised how “sporty” I looked. But I liked the plaid against the black and white pattern. Plus, it was a good shoe choice. The Sprinkles truck came by work today so we all made a field trip to get some red velvet. I would have been miserable in a high pair of heels on our sweets trek down Wilshire.

ttF Fashion Diary: Game Night

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Game Night
My friends Jess and Michael invited me over to their house for game night. I wanted to be comfy for our night of Scattegories, dirty martinis and Doritos. But since there were going to be a few people I didn’t know at the party I didn’t feel like sweats were appropriate. That’s why I adore the maxi dress. It feels like you’re wearing pajamas but has a casual chic look. I added my bling ring to distract people as we played our games. It sort-of worked. My teammate Jamie and I came in second.

ttF Fashion Diary: Retro Lace

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Retro Lace
I bought this dress when H&M first opened in Boston. Every time I wear it I get compliments. The lace polka-dot print came in different silhouettes but I adore the 50s feel of the shirt dress with a flowing skirt. I swapped the black belt it came with for a cream one and then used a piece of lace I cut off an old top as a headband to bring in some more white. Once I left my house I wish I had worn different shoes. I’m not crazy about the gold. I would have preferred a chunkier, wooden heel. But from ankles up, I love the vintage feel of this look.

ttF Fashion Diary: Channeling Gwyneth

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Channeling Gwyneth
It’s rare that I copy a celebrity look from head to toe. But when I saw a photo of Gwyneth Paltrow at the opening of Mario Testino’s exhibit, “Kate Who?,” I wanted her exact outfit.

Tonight, I went to dinner with my friend Ashley at Bar Marmont. And I tried to recreate the look as closely as possible with items I had in my closet. My faux agate necklace costs a fraction of Gwyneth’s diamond-studded horn. And I didn’t have her gorgeous Stella McCartney clutch. But I still felt classic and sexy in the black and white outfit, just like Gwynnie looked in London.

ttF Fashion Diary: French Soho

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: French Soho
Tonight I went back to Soho House to celebrate French Connection’s Fall 2010 collection. I adore FC dresses. I bought this teal one on major sale in Miami. It’s a summery version of my beloved long-sleeve blue mini. I kept it simple on top with some matching gemstone earrings and used my sandals and gold manicure as jewelry.

All the celebs at the event were obviously decked out in French Connection, too: Lo Bosworth put her hair in a high bun and slipped on the Rebecca dress ($228), Jamie Lynn-Sigler showed off her curves in the Dani Crepe Dress ($128),  Amanda Righetti went for color in the Spoonful of Sugar dress ($368) and Mario Lopez’s girlfriend Courtney Mazza accessorized her baby bump with the Iron Eagle jacket ($198).

ttF Fashion Diary: Boys Club

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Boys Club
I’ve always been a girlie-girl. I love feminine ruffles, tulle and lace. But when American Apparel sent me these trousers, I immediately saw them paired with a vest. Sometimes, it’s fun to step outside your comfort zone. Now I said step, not leap. I had the pants cropped so I could wear heels (oxford flats just aren’t flattering when you’re 5′3 in pleated pants). And I kept my tank fitted to show I still had some curves.

My coworker, Brett, said it was his favorite look I’ve ever worn! I wouldn’t necessarily go that far but sometimes it’s fun to play with the boys.
