When I began the ttF Fashion Staples Series back in January, one of my many inspirations was the Society Stylist’s Little Black Dress experiment. August marks the one year anniversary of the month-long LBD journey so blogger Valerie Elizabeth decided to take the concept around the country. I was one of 31 bloggers asked to participate in the Little Black Dress Experiment Tours America.
Since I was the third blogger to post, I only had one day to figure out how to style my Ann Taylor dress. I spent over an hour in my closet on Friday night and came up with six different options. I couldn’t decide how I wanted to portray my style: 1) Girlie 2) Glam 3) Flirty 4) Professional 5) Sexy or 6) Casual. That’s the beauty of Twitter. I let my followers decide!
After TwitPic-ing the six options, number 2 came out the winner. It was one of my faves, too. I felt it represented my city since it was inspired by the leggy looks of one of Hollywood’s A-listers, Cameron Diaz.
I wanted to keep it sophisticated so I stuck to minimal accessories, which each made a bold statement: a decadent pair of Manolo Blahnik gold heels (brocade is very in for fall), a glam lia sophia cuff and a sparkling LOFT belt, which is actually a necklace!
My friend Kristian Damboulev is an awesome photographer. He took me up in the hills with Jamie Stone, who helped me pin the dress (there was no time to take it to a tailor to shorten). I love the contrast of the gold with the dirt and the whole city in the background without a cloud in the sky. It’s very Hollywood.

ttF Fashion Staples Month #6 Summary: June Animal
My June Staples were my favorite set of staples yet. Animal prints really liven things up, whether it’s a basic LBD or a simple pair of jeans and a tee. Surprisingly, even the zebra skirt was easy to style. I was nervous how I’d be able to create sic completely different outfits but the stripes were inspiring. And I know some of you readers bought the Betsey Johnson heels, so I’d love to see how you wore them!

Now that June over, it’s time to let my animal prints hibernate for a bit. Check back tomorrow to see what July has in store for ThinkThruFashion’s ttF Fashion Staples Series.

Military inspired everything has continued from fall into spring. And celebrities are obsessed with J Brand Houlihan Skinny Cargo Pants
($230). The have that army feel but are still feminine, thanks to a snug fit and zipper sides. But they still are cargo pants so do not wear them with combat boots and a backpack like Ciara. I like how Rachel Bilson and Khloé Kardashian wear theirs the best. The white tee and straw Chanel bag keep with the classic, casual vibe of the pants and leopard wedges make them safari chic.

Who would ever have thought that I’d be having a Who Wore It Better? with Amy Poehler and my former neighbor Kathy Griffin?! I never knew I had anything in common with comediennes but I guess we all love Karen Millen
Amy wore the satin dress back in June at the 2009 Gracie Awards Gala and Kathy wore a blue version a few days later for a Late Show appearance. I didn’t have a dressy enough event to wear the dress to until last night.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Jumpsuiting Around
Today was a fashion challenge. I needed to create an outfit with February’s fashion staples that could take me from the office, to a Laker game and then to a birthday cocktail party. Luckily, I had epiphany upon remembering how I styled my jumpsuit in an Ask ThinkThru post on what to wear from work to an event.
For work, I played with color, pairing a turquoise necklace with my purple cardi. When it was time for the game, I threw the necklace in my purse and added purple and gold cuffs to watch the Lakers beat Philadelphia. After leaving Staples center, I added some sparkle with oversize hoops and left the cardigan in the car to sex it up a bit for a party in the hills. And my trusty Michael Kors Berkley sandals took me from 10am to 1am. Of course my feet were thrilled to slip into EMUs when I got home to walk Bunny but they didn’t even start hurting until the 10th hour. Pretty amazing for a 4-inch heel, huh? I’ve recommended these sandals before and my friends have thanked me numerous times. They’re incredibly comfortable—and now they’re on sale, too.
Forever 21 jumpsuit and cardigan, Bebe belt, Karl Lagerfeld sunglasses, Michael Kors Berkley sandals, grandmother’s turquoise necklace, lia sophia enamel cuff and crystal earrings, Lauren Merkin clutch, Antidote Skincare faux tan
Fashion Staples Used: Thick Waist Belt
Get the look…
*Note: I only recommend the Kors sandals in black patent or fabric. I just steered a reader away from gunmetal. The shoe doesn’t look nearly as nice in metallic or animal print.
