What should I be for Halloween? That’s the question I’ve been hearing for the past week. If you’re like me you’ve already been thinking about what to wear this year. But if you’re costume clueless, here’s some inspiration straight off the runways of New York, Milan and Paris. Hit up your local vintage shop, dig through your closet, break out the glue gun and have fun!

I didn’t make the show but I just read something very cool about Costello Tagliapietra’s spring collection. Jeffrey Costello took photos of the lake and sunset in Brooklyn, and then he and design partner Robert Tagliapietra worked with Air-Dye to print the digital artwork on fabric without using water. The result? Absolutely stunning, colorful, earth-friendly fashion.

My favorite part of ThinkThruFashion is the One Item, Different Look series. Especially in this economy, it’s important to know how to get the most use of your wardrobe. Sheena Matheiken is taking this concept to the next level. In May 2009, she pledged to wear the same dress, different ways, every day for an entire year!
The exercise in sustainable fashion is a yearlong fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, which helps educate slum children in India. Sheena, who grew up in India, had her best friend, designer Eliza Starbuck, create seven identical button-up shift dresses. Vote on her daily styling of the little black dress at theuniformproject.com.

During Earth Month, I wrote about Bono and Ali Hewson’s eco-friendly line, Edun. The socially conscious company helps developing countries with sustainable employment and has a huge celebrity following.
Well, now their spring and summer collections are on sale, which is good news because organic clothing can be pretty pricy. These are the eight pieces I’m considering from the sale:
1. The silk Zig Zag Cami
is extremely functional. I’d wear it under a blazer for the office, then alone with black cigarette pants for after work cocktails ($175 $125).
2. Cutouts are an ongoing trend. Edun’s organic cotton Ogogo Sweater
takes an edgy approach with its asymmetric shapes ($210 $150).
3. I’d wear the Bamako - Zebra Dress
with black gladiator flats for lunch with the girls, then throw on a pair of heels and an armful of bangles when we hit the town later that night ($135 $95).
4. Not everyone is a fan of rompers but Eduns’s Tribal Onepiece
offers a more sophisticated take on the average playsuit with its loose fit and silk material. Throw on a long pendant necklace and some heels (or flats) and you’re good to go ($265 $190).
5. Who needs a necklace when you have an edgy printed neckline? The Grass Collar - Ainsley V - Neck Dress
reminds me of something Rihanna would wear and it definitely fits in with this season’s tribal chic trend ($160 $115).
6. Colorful animal prints remind me of my bright blue leopard bathing suit I had as a kid. I can wear Edun’s Bamako - Cheetah Dress
over a simple black bikini for a grownup version of my fun childhood memory ($135 $95).
7. The Preservation Top
is made of Ethiopian hand woven cotton. The breezy material is perfect for cool summer nights ($135 $95).
8. A silk wrap dress will never go out of style. The Zimba Wrap Dress
is available in black but I prefer this feminine rose color ($335 $235).
I hope everyone is having a nice Mother’s Day. Mine has been wonderful so far. Bunny got me the most adorable present: a custom yoga mat. Now whenever I do Downward Dog I get smile at my dog.
Bunny designed the eco-friendly mat online at Yogamatic. They have a variety of pre-made mats to choose from (pictured above) or you can customize one with your own image. It comes with a free yoga bag and a percentage of each sale goes to Global Green.
A personalized yoga mat is a great present for anyone who does yoga or pilates. And if you want to throw in a little something extra, pair the mat with workout gear from Rese. Ever since I tested out various styles over four months ago it’s all I wear to exercise. The clothing is so comfortable and hides any imperfections from cellulite to muffin top. And it’s stylish enough to wear on errands, too.
Did you receive or give any cool presents for Mother’s Day?
President Obama urged people to wash their hands as much as possible to combat this swine flue pandemic. I’ve been washing like Lady Macbeth but there aren’t sinks everywhere I go. So when I’m browsing the racks at a boutique or checking out the newest lipsticks at a makeup counter I keep a bottle of Clean George in my purse.
I used to use Purell when I rode the T in Boston. But the alcohol-based sanitizer would dry out my hands. The Tea Tree and Mauka Oil in Clean George moisturizes like a lotion. My editor at mystyle.com introduced me to the eco-friendly hand purifier about a year ago. I can’t believe I completely forgot to post about it during Earth Month!
You can buy Clean George at Whole Foods or order the three scents online. For $11.99 you get 400 squirts of natural germ killing goodness. Take that swine flu!
