One year ago I made a New Year’s resolution to think thru fashion. Thus, a new blog was born. ThinkThruFashion kicked off with advice on shopping the sales, shopping your closet and shopping celebrity looks for less.
This year, I’m making the same resolution—only, my thought process is going to be a little different. Sure, I’ll still have the shopping element via my ttF Faves; I’ll cover celebrity style with One Item, Different Looks posts; and I’ll continue my extensive pictorial breakdown of runway trends from fashion week.
So what’s new?
The ttF Fashion Staples Series
Every month in 2010, I will create an outfit using 6 fashion staples. I will incorporate at least one of those staples into my outfit every day. And over the course of the month, I will wear each of those 6 items at least 6 different ways.
Everyone talks about fashion staples, the essential pieces all women need in their closet. There’s the cashmere sweater, a pair of black pumps, a white button down and of course, the LBD. When the recession hit, making the most out of these classics became more popular than ever. Society Stylist embarked on a 31-day Little Black Dress Experiment and Sheena Matheiken of The Uniform Project has pledged to wear the same dress for an entire year!
While both women’s remarkable styling skills are inspirational, the majority of you probably wouldn’t wear the same dress every single day in real life. That’s why I’m making ThinkThruFashion’s project more realistic.
Check back January 1 to see the first outfit of the ttF Fashion Staples Series—and have a fabulously stylish New Year’s!

There are few styles that work on every body type. But L’Wren Scott nailed it with this white dress. The designer is known for her impeccably fitting designs and this sweetheart strapless is just a prime example.
I love how each celebrity put her own spin on the dress. Nicole Kidman kept it classic, Nicole Richie added a boho vibe with House of Harlow bangles and Jennifer Lopez upped the sex factor with Christian Louboutin Differa platforms. The only one who fell a little flat was Jennifer Love Hewitt. At just 5′2, she needed to shorten the hemline so it hit just below the knee. It’s one of the drawbacks of not having a 5′10 statuesque frame like Ms. Kidman. You have to have a tailor on speed dial.

How could I have missed this? Today only, 745 online merchants are offering free shipping with Christmas eve delivery. Um, amazing!!!
Granted, 367 stores have restrictions but most of my faves don’t. You have to exuse me for the short post. I have some holiday shopping to do ASAP.
This past weekend, Lady Gaga got into the holiday spirit with a reindeer hat, her trademark fishnets and a see-through rubber coat-dress to have drinks at London’s Mayfair Hotel.
Strange? Yes. Shocking? No.
Much stranger are the necklaces at Miller Park Zoo’s ZOOtique gift shop. They’re made with reindeer dung!
Each “Gem,” as the Bloomington, Illinois zoo refers to the droppings, is dehydrated, sanitized and painted—and it’s developed with a tale from retired zoo superintendent John Tobias. It’s a pretty cute story:
John’s grandmother use to gather her grandchildren and take them outside on Christmas Eve to scatter homemade chocolate chips. She would tell the children that the chips would attract Santa and his reindeer to their home, because the reindeer would know that other reindeer had already visited and left droppings…
I just don’t know how I feel about wearing feces around my neck.
I much prefer wearing a beaded reindeer on my chest. The J. Crew reindeer tee is sold out online, but I saw a bunch when I was at the San Diego store last weekend. Now I regret not buying one.

These Melissa Ashanti Booties
($120) are one of my fave items on the list. I really wish I had them to wear with all the rain we’re getting in Los Angeles this week!
Kristin Cavallari stepped out in a Pleasure Doing Business 4 Band Stripe Skirt
($99) this week in New York (#7). I would have liked her look but the stripes don’t require a belt.
I prefer bandage style skirts worn with a top tucked in, as Rihanna (#2) and Rashida Jones (#6) did with their Pleasure Doing Business 3 Band
($110) version earlier this year.
While black and white is a classic, adding a pop of color like the Teen Vogue model at Fashion’s Night Out (#8) can be fun. Just don’t add pink with your bra like Rihanna (#5).
