This cotton floral cutout shift dress was one of those Forever 21 finds that I could not believe was under 30 bucks. Doesn’t it look more like it cost $100? So even though it was a tad big on me I had to have it. I actually like the looser fit for summer since it keeps me cool. I wore look #1 to work recently and got beaucoup compliments but my favorite way to wear this dress is how I styled it in look #2. The shapeless fit and the statement necklace have a retro 60s vibe.

During the work week, I like a bag big enough to fit my entire life. But my life is a little too large to bring to a party. So when I plan on going straight from the office to an event, I usually wear my Marc Jacobs hobo. It’s roomy enough to hold my wallet, day planner and blackberry but not so big that I have to worry about knocking over people’s champagne as I walk around a party. Plus, the tan leather matches everything.

I have some outlandish clutches but Lauren Merkin’s are my go-to classics. They go with almost everything and hold up really well, too. I’ve had these black and gunmetal ones for over three years now, wear them a ton and they’re still in great condition.

My mother is a J. Crew-a-holic, and has been way before Michelle Obama came on the fashion scene. This morning, she sent me a few of the items she just ordered and I fell in love with this Perfect-Fit Falling Ruffles Tank ($29.50). The tuxedo-like bib of ruffles is like a built-in statement necklace and I think it would look just adorable tucked into a pencil skirt with a cardigan—although I have a feeling my mom is going to wear the navy and tan ones she ordered with jeans, which I’m sure will look great as well.

When my color palette starts to darken I switch from my Bulga to my Botkier. A gray purse is ideal since it goes with black, brown and everything in between. Plus, you can’t tell if it gets dirty.
