A Patriotic Potluck Cocktail Party

July 4th Party IdeasI had to cancel my July 4th weekend trip last minute, leaving me without plans to celebrate Independence Day. Since I already picked out an outfit, I decided to throw a pre-Fourth of July fiesta. I just sent out invitations today to my Patriotic Potluck Party. I asked guests to bring something to drink or eat that is red, white or blue. I’ll be serving red and white wine and blue cupcakes that I plan on making using food coloring. If I have time, I’ll pick up some flag toothpicks and stick them in the cheese plate. This red, white and blue theme is a quick and easy way to throw an All-American soiree.

ttF Daily Fave: Linea Pelle Lola Clutch

Linea Pelle Folding ClutchDark denim looks so chic with navy. That’s why I love this Linea Pelle Lola Clutch NEW – Midnight Blue Handbag ($135). For day, you can stuff it with your essentials and hold it by the handle. When you swap your ballet flats for heels to hit the town, you can fold it up and clutch on to the supple leather. The gold buckles reminds me of the Fendi B bags worn by celebrities like Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian—except this hardware isn’t as hard on your wallet.

A Search for the Longest Lasting Lip Color

A Search for the Longest Lasting Lip ColorAfter dying my hair dark brown, I found that I needed to wear more makeup than I did with lighter highlights. Since I’m usually rushed in the mornings, I figured a bright lip would be my best bet. I decided to test three different products in order to find the longest lasting lip color: Stila Cherry Crush Lip and CheekStain ($24), CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain in Plum Pout ($8.99) and Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in True Red ($19).

A Search for the Longest Lasting Lip Color 9AM9AM: First Application
Stila
Clicking the applicator makes it hard to determine how much color is coming out from the brush. But since the stain doesn’t dry right away, if you mess up it’s fixable.

CoverGirl
The applicator is like a marker, which is great because you can be very precise. But precision is key, since the stain is very hard to get off your skin if you mess up.

Laura Mercier
The pencil makes it easy to be precise, but since it’s so matte, I need to add a swipe of Rosebud lip salve. The color is the best since you can pick out the correct shade at the makeup counter.

ttF Daily Fave: Corey Lynn Calter Caranday Dress

Corey Lynn Calter Caranday Dress I stopped in Anthropologie this weekend to help a friend look for pillows and spotted this Corey Lynn Calter Caranday Dress ($178). I picture it with ballet flats and minimal jewelry for a feminine French look. I didn’t have time to try it on so unfortunately, I don’t know how it fits. But the banded waist and full skirt makes me confident that it should be flattering. The stripes would have been adorable for July 4th weekend. C’est la vie.

ttF Daily Fave: Karen Millen Satin Sleeved Dress

Karen Millen Satin Sleeve DressWhen I lived in Boston, I used to shop at Karen Millen every time I visited Copley Place. The UK brand has beautifully tailored clothing, and very unique since they have limited stores in the United States. Today, I popped into their San Diego store during an impromptu shopping trip. Even though I have no need for it, I fell in love with this Karen Millen satin sleeved dress ($380 $175). It reminded me of the dramatic shoulders I adored on Dolce & Gabbana’s runway—the ones I could only afford in my dreams. This dress wasn’t cheap, but on sale it was doable. Now I just need someone to invite me to a fabulous event so I can wear it!
