I must say I’m pretty disappointed with the fashion—or lack there of—at this year’s MTV Movie Awards. Aside from Vanessa Hudgens’ Max Azria maxi and hot Jimmy Choos, Sienna Miller’s sparkly Twenty8Twelve mini and Ashley Greene’s retro Dolce & Gabbana getup, nothing wowed me in a good way (there were plenty of looks, ahem Megan Fox’s mullet, that made me shudder). If I had attended tonight, I would have worn my new Elizabeth and James maxi dress I bought yesterday during a super fun shopping spree with Amber Katz. So I decided to stage my own little photo shoot (my cousin was dying to see my new dress, anyway). What do you guys think, should I keep it? Or is too MTV Movie Awards to wear for a girl’s night out? I’m still undecided.

Yesterday I had a phenom shopping spree with my New York beauty pal, Amber Katz, aka the Beatuy Blogging Junkie. She’s in L.A. to cover the red carpet at tonight’s MTV Movie Awards for Gilette. While most reporters will be dishing about gossip and fashion, Amber is going to rate which stars have the most glam gams on the carpet. My money is on Vanessa Hudgens (nominated for “Best Kiss” with Zac Efron in High School Musical 3: Senior Year), Kate Hudson and Anne Hathway (nominated for “Best Fight” in Bride Wars), Miley Cyrus (nominated for “Breakthrough Performance” in Hannah Montana: The Movie) and Kate Winselt (nominated for “Best Female Perfomance” in The Reader). Models Alexa Chung and Hilary Rhoda celebrated “Burberry Day” in New York wearing the exact same blue Burberry dress. But the way they styled it shows the versatility of a feminine sheath. It can look edgy and cool when paired with a rolled-up blazer, studded belt and platform booties. Most hipsters have this combo down pat. But I’m more of a Charlotte than a Carrie so I prefer Hilary’s classic look: a thin black belt and a fabulous pair of Manolos.

I’m usually very dubious of online quizzes. But they’re a fun way to procrastinate whenever I’m facing writer’s block. Tonight, I took one for research purposes only. I wanted to see if CoverGirl could correctly predict which shade of their new LashBlast Luxe mascara was right for me.
Early today, I stopped by the Kick-Off to Summer Party at the Byron & Tracey Salon in Beverly Hills. I chatted with CoverGirl’s celebrity artist, Molly R. Stern, about summer beauty tips—she suggests dampening your sponge before applying foundation to achieve dewy, glowing skin. Then I got a fabulous manicure by Bali, who applied one coat of reflective pale pink polish then another coat of sheer for a luminous matte look (Remember this tip because matte nails are hot for fall). Finally, I left with a goodie bag full of CoverGirl products. Which brings me back to the quiz: Which luxe shade of the blackest-black LashBlast formula is right for me?
