My favorite line for colorful, eco-friendly prints is Doie Designs. The designer, Sara Kirsner, named her company after her stylish grandma and produces every piece locally, in Los Angeles. The current collection is actually called Los Angeles, but you can also shop past seasons at discounted prices online. The magenta and navy NYC Madison dress ($208 $83) can easily be worn all year-round. Just goes to prove it is possible be a recessionista and stay green.

Designer Dalia MacPhee creates gowns for every stage in a woman’s life from high school proms and sorority semi-formals to black tie galas and award shows. One of my favorites is the ruffled hem gown ($295.50), which Dancing with the Stars‘ Samantha Harris and Julianne Hough have both worn in black. The dress is part of Dalia’s vegan collection and every time you purchase a Dalia gown, the company plants a tree in the Tahoe National Forest. It’s pure green glam—and affordable, too! Prices range from $180-$350.

If you’ve ever opened up a celebrity weekly, you’ve probably seen Alex and Ani bangles on the wrists of Anne Hathaway, Miley Cyrus, Jessica Simpson and America Ferrera, to name a few. The celeb-coveted line was created by Carolyn Rafaelian, who grew up in a family of jewelers and named her company after her two daughters. She uses domestic recycled metals and nothing is thrown away or wasted. The bracelets are a little pricy but these are pieces both you and your daughter can wear, thanks to an expandable design concept that guarantees almost every body type the perfect fit. Alex and Ani also has unique earrings, necklaces, rings and hair accessories.

Straw bags are a summer staple. But I just can’t justify paying over $200 for a Tory Burch or Michael Kors bag similar to ones used to see in the Caribean for $20. That’s why I love Mad Imports. Their rafia bags are super affordable and come in everything from tribal prints to rainbow brights. The company works with artisans in Madagscar and Kenya to support sustainable growth and the accessories, of course, are made from natural materials. It’s like you went on vacation and found a unique steal from the locals on the beach—except instead of travelling hours to get to a tropical destination, all you need to do is walk a few steps to your computer and click a button.

Did you know that you can make t-shirts from plastic bottles? I learned about this mind-boggling concept when I was introduced to RevengeIs. Their women’s, men’s and kid’s tees are created from organic cotton and fiber made from plastic bottles. They use about 3-5 bottles per shirt and the result is soft, sustainable comfort. My favorite is the Women’s Earth Day t-shirt ($32). The screen printed tree and and cool colors fit right in with spring’s hippie chic trend. Because what’s more chic than going green?
